SEALDAH DIVISION TO INTRODUCE AC EMU SERVICES SHORTLY IN BETWEEN SEALDAH & RANAGHAT

Kolkata, August 06th, 2025, In an endeavour to provide comfort of daily passengers during the scorching & unbearable summer season with a safe & comfortable journey option in EMU local at an affordable price and to meet growing demand of suburban passengers, Sealdah Division is all set to run an AC EMU local in between Sealdah and Ranaghat soon. This is the first AC EMU service to be introduced in the Eastern part of India.

The salient technical features of these AC EMU rakes are as follows :-

1. The elegant looking ICF make rake operates on 25 KV AC traction with maximum speed upto 110 KMPH. 

2. All the 12 coach car will be Air Conditioned. The coaches are made of Stainless steel body with straight side walls. The rake is end to end connected by sealed wider vestibule gangways.

3. All the AC EMU coaches have 04 electrically operated double leaf automatic sliding doors in each side. The coaches are loaded with wide and large double sealed glass windows to provide panoramic view for commuters. 

4. 3 seater stainless steel seats are provided in all the coaches. Total seating capacity of a train is 1126. 

5. All the coaches are covered under CCTV surveillance. Wear resistant rubber floor top, Aluminium extruded modular luggage rack & GPS based LED displays for passenger information, passenger announcement system & talk back system are provided in each coach of the rake to enhance passenger amenity and comfort. Announcement will be made on which side door will be opening at each side.

6. The doors of the train will open only after arriving at stations and will close before departing from the stations and remain close while on run for safety reasons. The control of the door will remain with the Driver/Guard who will operate the doors of the train compartments.

7. The Indian Railways have already rationalized the fare of AC EMU Suburban train services to make it pocket friendly. Our esteemed commuters will be provided with abandoned options to take monthly/fortnightly/weekly tickets in AC locals. The single journey fare of AC EMU trains for Dumdum, Barrackpore, Naihati & Ranaghat will be only ₹ 35/-, 60/-, 90/- & 120/- respectively. Charges for corresponding monthly season ticket (MST) will be ₹ 620/-, 1275/-, 1810/- & 2430/- respectively.

The new AC EMU trains in Sealdah Division will definitely satisfy the expectations of the passengers to endure the sweltering temperatures in the overcrowded EMU locals, particularly during the rush hours of journey. It will certainly initiate a new era of an enhanced & cosy commuting experience at an unbelievably affordable price. This is definitely going to be a game changer in suburban transportation scenario of City of Joy.
