SEALDAH DIVISION TO INTRODUCE COUPLE OF SPECIAL TRAINS FOR DECONGESTION OF BIDHANNAGAR STATION

Kolkata, July 28th 2025.In an endeavour to ensure better crowd management, Sealdah Division is leaving no stone unturned to make *Bidhannagar a Vendor Free Station*. Bidhannagar is an immensely important station of the Division due to it’s strategic location and extensive connectivity because of it’s proximity with Salt Lake, Sealdah, Kankurgachi, Sector V etc. Apart, it also serves as a crucial connector between North & South sections. 

Under dynamic leadership of Shri Rajeev Saxena/DRM, Sealdah Division has recently taken host of initiatives to ease passenger congestion and improve passenger safety. In recent past, as many as 10 new EMU services have been introduces in different sections, viz., Dumdum Cantt.- Bongaon, Sealdah – Diamond Harbour, Barasat – Basirhat. With the upcoming Yellow & Orange stretches of Metro, Dumdum Cantonment is poised to emerge as new transit hub, potentially diverting suburban passenger load from Bidhannagar. 

In a bid to decongest Bidhannagar further, Sealdah Division is planning to introduce a new EMU service originated from Bidhannagar. To clear huge evening rush of Bidhannagar, *it has been decided to run one Bidhannagar – Kalyani EMU special which will leave Bidhannagar at 19:25 hrs to reach Kalyani at 20:36 hrs. Another Kalyani – Sealdah EMU special will leave Kalyani at 20:52 hrs to reach Sealdah at 22:19 hrs*. Both the new EMU locals will be operational, once the station becomes more conducive with zero vendors for safer train operations. Sealdah Division is committed to make it a vendor free station for the sake of providing more foot space for commuters in order to avoid any stampede like situation during peak hours.

Introduction of 2 aforementioned new EMU locals will be definitely instrumental in providing seamless connectivity and better travel experience for lakhs of esteemed daily commuters.
